Concetto rendering

Concetto - Generative Design Application

Concetto was a prototype generative and computational design environment for AEC. It had high-performance Vulkan graphics with a portable React-like front end, on Windows and Linux for cloud services development. I was product management director, setting strategy and scaling up the teams of product managers, designers, and QA testers. Design explorationA platform for design optimization workflows. Image: © Glodon USA Software. It had interactive 3D modeling tools with a visual scripting environment and a design-space explorer for optimization. The graph and interactive tools worked interchangeably, with unified selection behavior for a fluid modeling experience. ...

Constructing the 'Big Blue Bear'

“I See What You Mean”, is a monumental sculpture by Lawrence Argent installed in Denver, CO in 2005 at the Colorado Convention Center. I was Director of Digital Fabrication at Kreysler & Associates during its construction. Bear model in RhinoThe two kinds of fabrication lines are shown: assembly joints (shown as black lines around panels), and parting lines (shown as green lines). ...

digiplasty Collaboration

The word “digiplasty” originated from a 2001 collaboration between James Stewart and myself, in which we attempted to establish shared-control digital sculpture creation through a structured online practice between us and other participants. Arising as a collaborative activity called “digiplasty”, these events embodied direct communication through strictly digital-geometric means, in which invited participants co-created by using latent communication in the mesh model’s structure and form. digiplasty collaboration No. 4 websiteA collaboration with invited sculptors including Elona Van Gent, Carolyn Ottmers, Michael Rees, and others. Everyone participating used only the modeler Nendo, a fluid and poetically simple poly modeler that inspired Wings3D ...

diagram of AI floor plans

LayoutGAN Prototype

A model trained on residential floor plans was used to create a sketch-based application for automatically drawing floor plans from building outlines. Program indicated by color, and the user could specify locations for doors and windows. The sketch app also had simple orthogonal and snap functionality. The model created plans in real-time while the user was drawing to give immediate feedback. It was then fed into models used to identify structural elements for downstream use in a building systems design prototype that used the Concetto platform. I was product manager for Glodon USA, originated the concept, gathered reference research such as House-GAN, and directed the AI research project. ...

MicroStation 3D Modeling Tools

A comprehensive set of Parasolid-based 3D solid modeling tools was created, leveraging D-Cubed 2D and 3D solvers. I oversaw the modeling system’s design, development, and testing, as well running go-to-market with beta user community, creating content, and supporting user events. Dimension-driven constraints for 2D sketches and 3D assemblies Works on all elements in the design file A design a system for parametric cells and templated placement Variables and parameters system In-model manipulation, precise input, integration with Accudraw and snapping Constraints and variablesDriving key parameters through variables allows creation of reusable parametric components. ...

Sand Painter set up in Studio at SIGGRAPH 2004

Sandpainter

Sand Painter was an 11’ x 17’ output device, printing ephemeral 1-bit images in silica sand. Installed at SIGGRAPH 2004 in Los Angeles, it was a collaboration inspired by drypainting traditions in art and hyper-scaling of design through digitization. Sandpainter project showing the machine and its output during a print. Image editing via vacuum. The CNC motion platform was provided by Bill Kreysler and I wrote the g-code interface. Gene Cooper developed the print head and did integration, and Karl Lang provided custom dithering for 1-bit images. ...

Sentiment Index

“Voice of the Customer” initiative that gathered user sentiment data across multiple interaction points to provide a cross-sectional view of user experience with Bentley products. The program combined input from four sources: executive interviews capturing Net Promoter Scores (NPS) and qualitative feedback; digital surveys offering periodic sentiment trends and open-text analysis; transactional Customer Effort Score (CES) surveys assessing ease of interaction; and G2.com product reviews providing product-level sentiment insights. I implemented the system through a series of workflows to automate survey distribution, data retrieval, and sentiment processing. ...
